The brooch was gifted to Princess Mary Adelaide, Duchess of Teck (mother of HM Queen Mary) by Emperor of Australia, in 1870. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II inherited the brooch from her grandmother, HM Queen Mary in 1953.
